American Airlines Sues Flight Attendant Behind ‘The Sky Steward’ Videos
American Airlines has filed a lawsuit against flight attendant Gailen David and 10 other “John Doe” defendants, alleging, among other things, breach of duty, conspiracy and trade infringement.
Why? Well, it all started with David’s role as The Sky Steward, an online alter ego he created in 2007. Last month, he was fired after posting several videos in which he parodied American executives, often dressed as a woman, and took them to task for the airline’s financial troubles.
David revealed the flight plans of several airline execs and claimed that the airline had bumped frequent flyers from first class to coach to make room for them, according to the lawsuit.
“The travel information of American Airlines’ passengers is considered both private and confidential, regardless of their relationship to the company,” an airline spokesman says. David says he’s not going to stop poking fun at airline honchos and he believes the trial will expose more of what he sees as mismanagement at the airline. “I will not stop,” he says. “American Airlines knows that I am a force to be reckoned with, and they are trying to shut me down.”
