She may have a major knee injury, but that will not keep Lindsey Vonn out of the Olympics. The US Ski and Snowboard Association expects her to recover in time for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Over at the Los Angeles Times, Chris Dufresne is skeptical, speculating that the skier could perhaps be “an official greeter in a walking cast” at the Games, but he goes on to note that you can’t really doubt Vonn: She “may have movie star looks but she’s also tougher than a $1 steak and one of the most competitive athletes I have ever covered,” he writes.

Vonn suffered ACL and MCL tears in her right knee and a break in her shinbone, and will be out for the rest of the season. People reports that, in a statement to the Today show, Vonn said she will have surgeries “soon” and promised to “work as hard as humanly possible to be ready to represent my country next year in Sochi.”

We may all remember three-time Olympic runner Suzy Favor Hamilton as the girl who was leading with 200 meters left in the 1,500 meter race at the Sydney Olympics who then faded and collapsed in the homestretch to finish last, but after today you will think about her as the former Olympian who has worked for the past year as a $600-an-hour call girl.

That’s right, in December 2011, Favor Hamilton, 44, began work as “Kelly Lundy” for a Las Vegas escort service. She apparently later leaked her true identity to some clients, according to the Smoking Gun. A reporter for the outlet confronted Hamilton and she eventually confessed, saying it was a “huge mistake.”

Despite being shut out of a medal at three Olympics, Favor Hamilton’s wholesome blonde looks and extended run as one of America’s best middle-distance stars, the paper noted, led to a slew of endorsements, including for Nike. She had dozens of speaking engagements annually.

The Smoking Gun reports Favor Hamilton was not in financial trouble, but ran a successful real estate brokerage with her husband in Madison, Wisc., where she lives with their 7-year-old daughter in a $600,000 home.

We are used to ice skating soap opera drama… but the latest juicy gasp comes courtesy of the US speedskating team.

Yesterday, Olympian Simon Cho admitted that he bent the blade of a skate belonging to Canadian Jean Olivier at a world event in Poland last year. Olivier fell in competition, costing Team Canada a shot at gold. It’s “the biggest mistake of my life,” said the 20-year-old Cho, who now faces a disciplinary hearing, reports AP. Why did he do it? Cho says he was pressured by US coach Jae Su Chun, who denies everything.

The strange part is that the US was already out of the competition at the event, notes the Washington Post. Cho says Chun simply wanted to get back at the Canadian team for a perceived slight earlier. The allegations come as current and former members of the team allege a pattern of physical and emotional abuse by Chun and seek to have him and his assistants fired. Investigators yesterday said they hadn’t found evidence to back up the claims. Chun remains suspended, however, because at the very least he learned of Cho’s tampering soon after it happened and didn’t report it.

Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings revealed she was pregnant while competing in the London Olympics.

The beach volleyball superstar, 34, and her husband Casey Jennings will welcome baby number three in April, they announced Monday on Today.

“When I was throwing my body around fearlessly and going for gold for our country, I was pregnant,” Walsh Jennings says. “Today I’m 11 weeks pregnant.”

The couple say they started trying for a baby about a month before the London Games, assuming it would take some time to conceive. Little did Walsh Jennings know, she’d be playing the gold medal match with partner Misty May-Treanor at five weeks along.

“I thought it could have been the stress of the Games and travel throws your schedule off,” she explains. “At some point, you’re late and then you start feeling something. And I definitely started feeling something in London.”

Unlike her pregnancies with her sons, Walsh Jennings is experiencing morning sickness this time around.

“This little one is kicking my butt! The first two were pretty easy, but with this one, I’m sick every day,” she admits. “I’ve got some awesome acne. I just feel different.”

The Ohio parents of Olympic gold medalist Tianna Madison have sued her, saying she spread stories they had been selfish and bullying and cheated her financially.

Robert and Jo Ann Madison filed the libel, slander and defamation lawsuit Thursday in Cleveland. They say they’ve been loving, supportive and generous parents.

Tianna Madison was on the winning 4×100-meter relay track team at the Summer Olympics in London. She won the gold with Allyson Felix, Bianca Knight and Carmelita Jeter in world record time. The lawsuit also names her husband, John Bartoletta.

The parents’ lawsuit seeks more than $25,000 each in compensatory and punitive damages.

The Olympic games are legendary, but there’s something missing. Actually there’s a lot to be desired. This isn’t an attack on London, Great Britain, or Queen Elizabeth. It’s pretty obvious that the host city fared well and the most recent Olympiad was arguably the best ever. Sometimes it feels like the choices of included sports are somewhat arbitrary. As I glance at my horse race betting guide, it’s pretty obvious what’s missing.

Sure, there are ponies in the Olympics, but it just isn’t the same. While an equestrian program that evaluates dressage, jumping, and eventing is interesting, it sadly lacks the speed and excitement of what you might find at the Kentucky Derby or even lesser American contests. I’m not even talking from a wagering standpoint. Think about the rush and excitement you can get from following the Triple Crown. Just take a look at your horse race betting guide next spring.

I guess transporting the finest thoroughbreds the world has ever seen to some far off locale offers too many complications. It might work well for Americans if the Olympics happen to be stateside. Maybe they can offer  horoughbred racing at select games when the environment and infrastructure are conducive to it. Does anyone know if the horses get their own medals?

If you think this scheme is far fetched, do you actually realize that the Olympic schedule is a constant work in progress? Over the century lots of sports have been added, tested, and dropped. There are also demonstration sports that are basically auditioning for a semi-permanent spot on the world stage. Do you know baseball used to have a place on the roster? Now there’s talk about changing the rules in basketball, perhaps adding an age requirement, so that the US doesn’t dominate and veterans don’t jeopardize their careers. Nonetheless, there’s still hope that a future horse race betting guide will have an Olympic section.

I know it wasn’t a big surprise, but in the back of my head I always had the hope it was all a hoax… but it wasn’t, it was very real.

Carmelita Jeter crossed the finish line pointing the baton at the clock showing a world record of 40.82 seconds Friday night as the United States won the women’s Olympic 4×100-meter relay for the first time since 1996.

Their time smashed the old record of 41.37 by East Germany in 1985.

Tianna Madison, 200-meter champion Allyson Felix and Bianca Knight gave the U.S. a big lead heading into the anchor leg by Jeter, the 100 silver medalist.
