Mark Wahlberg Going Back To High School
Marky Mark, I mean, Mr. Mark Wahlberg, is giving high school another try after ending his formal education at age 13.
The Boston native, 41, was a juvenile delinquent who later cleaned up his act, eventually becoming a ’90s hip-hopster, Calvin Klein spokesmodel and eventually an A-list actor. But he never earned his GED or high school diploma.
It’s been a source of contention for Wahlberg, who is the father of four. He hopes going back to school will help him be a better role model for his children.
“I am going back now. They have this new programme in Massachusetts now where you can actually take the courses online,” Mark said on the Late Show With David Letterman this week. “I’m gonna go and get my high school diploma.”
Mark admits the prospect of research papers, exams and nightly homework, has made him “a little nervous.”
“It’s an actual diploma, so I gotta take up all the courses that I missed and I’m a little nervous. I have a lot of down time on sets and in trailers so I just wanna blast through [the schoolwork]. Hopefully I’ll be able to [graduate] in six to eight months.”
But his new dream doesn’t stop there:
“I would love to, at some point, go to film school.” He said.
Mark Wahlberg officially insane: Says he would have landed 9/11 plane, kick terrorists’ ass
In a new interview with Men’s Journal, Mark Wahlberg says that world history would have been different had he not made a fortuitous decision to fly to Toronto a week early and thus avoid boarding one of the planes out of Boston that crashed into the World Trade Center on September 11th.
“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did,” he tells the magazine. “There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”
Wahlberg has spoken before of the near-miss, and the action he would have taken had he been on the flight.
“We certainly would have tried to do something to fight,” he said in 2006. “I’ve had probably over 50 dreams about it.”
Later, after he realized the dumb shit that came out of his mouth and probably a call from his angry rep, Wahlberg apologized in a statement:
“To suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible… I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention.”
Douche.
Is Mark Wahlberg a good casting choice for The Crow remake?
Oscar-nominated actor Mark Wahlberg is in talks to star in a remake of the 1994 dark drama The Crow.
The Other Guys star is the top choice to play the anti-hero in Stephen Norrington revamp of the Alex Proyas/Brandon Lee original, Entertainment Weekly said Wednesday. The long-awaited sequel will follow a murdered man who returns to Detroit from the dead to avenge his death and that of his girlfriend. Norrington describes James O’Barr’s comic book character as “realistic, hard-edged and mysterious.”
The first Crow starred Brandon Lee. The actor died on set after being shot by a blank bullet.
Mark Wahlberg says he’s embarrased of Marky Mark past… and he should be!
With an Oscar nod and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to his credit, Entourage producer Mark Wahlberg has come a long way since his days of kicking rhymes with The Funky Bunch. Nonetheless, the Bostonian can’t help but look away with a shamed face when he recalls his past as early ’90s hip-hopster Marky Mark.
Mark, now 39, originally joined brother Donnie as a member of the pop boy band New Kids on the Block. He later quit the band after growing disenfranchised with the group’s signature bubble gum sound and eventually found fame as rapper Marky Mark. Four kids and almost two decades later, Mark admits he wasn’t as cool as he once thought!
“Ah man, embarrassed. I thought I was so cool back then, but when I see the footage…I remember seeing this thing on VH1, some ‘Sexy People Of The 90s’ show. My brother Paul was watching with me and my assistant. They were just killing themselves with laughter,” Wahlberg jokes.
“To top it off I was number one! So for ages after whenever they’d call, they’d be, ‘Can we speak to the ‘Sexiest Man Of The 90s’ please? They keep killing me.”
