Shakira introduced her newborn son Milan, sharing a sweet snapshot of the 2-week-old receiving a kiss from his father, soccer star Gerard Piqué.

The photo is available through the couple’s UNICEF website, where the charity is accepting donations of $5-110 in celebration of the arrival of Milan, born Jan. 22 in Barcelona.

“We hope that, in his name, other less privileged children in the world can have their basic needs covered through gifts and donations,” the Colombian singer-songwriter, 35, and Piqué, 26, write. “Thank you for sharing this unforgettable moment with us.”

Shakira is now officially a mother.

The Colombian singer confirmed the birth of her son, Milan, via her website earlier today.

“We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born Jan. 22nd at 9:36 p.m., in Barcelona, Spain”

The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification. And just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.”

Colombian singer Shakira has confirmed that she is expecting her first child with soccer star Gerard Pique.

Shakira, 35, and Pique, a 25-year-old defender for FC Barcelona, have been an item since March 2011, but didn’t go public with the romance until a year later.  In an announcement on her website Wednesday, she told fans:

“As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby! At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days. This means I will not be able to be a part of the iHeartRadio Music Festival, but I’m sure this weekend in Las Vegas will be spectacular and I will be closely following everything that happens there! I’d like to thank Clear Channel and my fans for their constant love and understanding. Big kiss! And will see you very soon! Shakira.”

Shakira has not revealed the baby’s gender or when she is to due to deliver.

Gerard Pique used to be a regular starter for Barcelona — probably the finest team in the world — but recently he’s been excluded from key games, including a recent UEFA Champions League clash.

Why? Well, some people think Shakira has something to do with it.

Reports from Spanish papers claim Barca manager Pep Guardiola is displeased with how Pique is being distracted by his relationship with the Colombian singer.

The papers say that friction first occurred when Pique posted pictures of himself vacationing with the pop star. He was seen in the photos white-water rafting, an activity forbidden by his high-flying club. Supposedly Pique has been late to training more than once this season, and has broken other team rules.

Guardiola is still mulling over whether to stay with Barcelona, but newspaper reports have suggested he’ll only stay if Pique goes.

However, there are other forces to consider. The higher-ups at Barcelona feel Pique is too valuable to lose. As a relative youngster (25) and an accomplished center-back, the club is keen to keep him, especially as fellow defender and club captain Carles Puyol (33) is entering the twilight seasons of his career.

Football star Gerard Pique has denied being the cause of Shakira’s split from her boyfriend of 11 years.

The ex-Manchester United defender, 23, has been repeatedly linked to the singer, amid claims they have enjoyed secret dinner dates and romantic breaks.

Shakira, 33, announced her breakup with Antonio de la Rua earlier this week, saying they had actually ended their relationship in August but kept it private until now.

The statement sparked furious rumours that her alleged relationship with Pique was the reason for the separation.

But the World Cup winning footballer – who currently plays for FC Barcelona – insisted: ‘We’re just friends. There’s nothing more to it. I don’t know anything about the break-up.

‘You lot have just told me about it. We’re just friends and that’s that.’

Shakira met the footballer last spring while shooting the video to her song Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) – the official track of the 2010 World Cup.

Barcelona-based newspaper El Periodico de Catalunya claimed they have had a string of secret encounters since then.

It said they both spent a night in the seven-room Hotel Atzaro in Ibiza last July. The footballer is said to have arrived and left wearing the same clothes.

The paper also claimed they spent a weekend at a remote country house near the town of Tarrega, 70 miles west of Barcelona.

Last summer they are said to have enjoyed a meal together in the restaurant Raco d’en Cesc in central Barcelona. And in November they reportedly walked together on the beach at the resort of Blanes, 50 miles north of the city.

Shakira has previously dismissed reports of a romance.

At a press conference last month in Barcelona she described the claims as a ‘waka-rumour’ and added: ‘You shouldn’t take any notice of waka-rumours.’

Shakira announced her split from De La Rua, son of former Argentine president Fernando de la Rua, on her official website.

The couple said: ‘During our almost 11 years together we have loved each other deeply, taken care of each other and stood by one another.

‘They have been the most wonderful years of our lives, and thanks to that love and the respect we have shared for one another, we have been an exceptional couple and partners.

‘Our friendship and understanding of one another is unwavering and indestructible.’

The couple added that they viewed their separation as temporary, and that de la Rua – who is also Shakira’s agent – would continue to oversee the singer’s business and career interests.

‘We move forward together as partners, developing projects together, working hand in hand and in close communication,’ the pair said.

A source close to the singer told Spanish newspaper El Pais: ‘At the moment this is a temporary separation. The two of them want to take some time to reflect.’

Shakira, 33, said in various interviews in 2009 that she was ready to have children with her boyfriend.
