Wednesday NHL odds: Phoenix Coyotes at Anaheim Ducks
In one of the most unusual scheduling quirks in NHL regular-season history, the Phoenix Coyotes and Anaheim Ducks play for the third straight time on Wednesday night, with the Ducks on their first two-game losing streak on the season. They opened as -160 favorites for this one on WagerWeb.com. Check our current lines.
The Coyotes and Ducks played the first two games in Phoenix. On Saturday, the Coyotes won 5-4 in a shootout. Steve Sullivan netted the tying goal with 6:28 remaining in regulation — his first goal in 14 games — and then scored the lone goal in the shootout. Lauri Korpikoski scored twice, Matthew Lombardi added a goal, and Mike Smith stopped 31 shots through overtime and then all three shootout attempts for the Coyotes. Andrew Cogliano had three goals for his second NHL hat trick, and Saku Koivu added a goal and an assist for the Ducks, who lost for just the fifth time in 20 games.
On Monday, the Coyotes again won 5-4 in a shootout. Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored in the fifth round of the shootout and Smith stopped Bobby Ryan for the win. Antoine Vermette, Shane Doan, Michael Stone and Keith Yandle scored for the Coyotes in regulation. The consecutive wins have moved the Coyotes from 10th in the Western Conference to fourth and pulled Phoenix within eight points of Anaheim. Sullivan also scored in the shootout for Phoenix, which has won three of four. Ryan Getzlaf had a goal, two assists and scored in the shootout, and Ryan, Corey Perry and Matt Beleskey scored for the Ducks, who have lost consecutive games for the first time this season.
The eight goals in regulation in each of the first two contests were scored in the exact same sequence. The Ducks blew leads of 1-0, 3-2 and 4-3. The Ducks, however, have won eight in a row at home and are now out for revenge as they look to continue their longest run at home since a club-record 11-game stretch in 2009-10. It’s not clear who will start in net for the Ducks. Viktor Fasth, who lost Saturday’s game, has posted a 1.23 goals-against average in winning all four home starts while Jonas Hiller has a 2.70 GAA in winning his last four in Anaheim. Hiller started Monday’s game.
