NFL Week 14 Odds: Kansas City Chiefs at Washington Redskins
The Kansas City Chiefs are the first team in NFL history to start 9-0 and lose their next four games. Should the Chiefs be able to end that skid Sunday at struggling Washington, they will clinch a playoff spot a season after going 2-14.
Kansas City allowed 111 points through the first nine games while facing two teams that currently have winning records — Dallas and Philadelphia, both 7-5. The Chiefs since have sandwiched two losses to Denver around a defeat to San Diego, giving up 103 points.
The Kansas City defense allowed 208.3 yards passing, 326.9 total yards and 13.3 points per game during the nine-game win streak. It has given up 371 yards passing, 484.3 total yards and 34.3 points per game during three-game skid. The defense also has just two sacks in last five games after 35 sacks in first seven. Justin Houston, the team leader with 11, could miss a second straight game with an elbow injury.
Kansas City has started league-high 24 drives in opponents’ territory, Washington a league-low six (tied with Falcons). Conversely, opponents have started only five drives in Chiefs territory (tied with Chargers for fewest), while opponents have started 24 on the Redskins’ side of the 50 (tied for second most).
The Redskins have lost four straight and are eliminated from the playoffs a year after winning the NFC East. Washington QB Robert Griffin III rushed for season-high 88 yards last week in a 24-17 loss to the Giants but has yet to run for TD in 2013 after rushing for seven in 2012.
The Chiefs have posed a difficult challenge for the Redskins through the years, going 7-1 and winning five straight in the all-time series. The teams haven’t played since 2009.
