College football odds: No. 15 Kansas State at No. 6 Oklahoma

It’s a huge Big 12 opener in Norman on Saturday night as unbeatens Kansas State and Oklahoma face off to make an early statement as the conference’s best team. The Sooners are 14-point home favorites on WagerWeb.com. The Big 12 has strong so far with the 10 teams combining for just three losses, and two of those are by doormat Kansas.

Oklahoma has played a very weak schedule thus far. The Sooners opened with a 24-7 win at UTEP and then beat Florida A&M 69-13 on Sept. 8. In that game, RB Damien Williams, a junior college transfer, broke off an 89-yard touchdown run and finished with 156 yards rushing and four scores in a record-setting Owen Field debut. Williams’ rushing total was the most for a player in his first game at the Sooners’ home field, and he became only the fourth player at the school to eclipse 100 yards rushing in each of his first two games. Adrian Peterson was the last to do it, in 2004.

Landry Jones threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns with one interception while notching his 31st victory, moving past Jamelle Holieway for second in school history. Jones can tie Steve Davis’ record this week. Kenny Stills caught 10 passes for 120 yards and one TD.

Kansas State hasn’t been challenged either this year. It opened with a blowout of Missouri State and then a surprisingly easy win over Miami (Fla.). Last week, KSU beat North Texas 35-21. The Mean Green were within 14-13 in the third quarter before KSU pulled away – it likely had its eyes on this week’s OU game.

North Texas held its Big 12 opponent to 143 yards rushing — Kansas State entered the game sixth nationally at better than 300 yards per game — while holding the ball an astonishing 37 minutes, 4 seconds, which prevented the Wildcats from getting into a rhythm. Wildcats QB Collin Klein passed for 230 yards and two scores and led the team with 85 yards rushing and added another touchdown. The senior ranks ninth nationally in pass efficiency (180.77), but is also K-State’s second-leading rusher with 210 yards and four TDs.

Saturday’s game marks the 93rd meeting between OU and Kansas State. Oklahoma is 71-17-4 against the Wildcats, 35-6-3 vs. K-State in Norman and 11-2 in Big 12 openers under Stoops, including 7-0 at home. OU is looking for its sixth straight win in the series and ninth in the last 10. Last year, the Sooners won 58-17 at KSU in a matchup of Top-10 teams. Jones threw for a school-record 505 yards and five touchdowns.
