Wednesday college basketball odds: No. 3 Indiana at Purdue
It could be a big-time trap game for No. 3 Indiana on Wednesday night as the Hoosiers could look past state-rival Purdue and toward Saturday’s huge home game against No. 1 Michigan. IU opened as an 8-point favorite on WagerWeb.com. Check our current lines.
Indiana enters off a 75-70 win over No. 13 Michigan State on Sunday. Junior Victor Oladipo finished with 21 points, seven rebounds, six steals and three blocks to lead IU. He was 8 of 12 from the field and 4 of 6 from the line with more offensive rebounds (four) than defensive. Coach Tom Crean also credited him with 15 first-half deflections, something Crean said he’s never seen before. Cody Zeller made only two baskets and finished with nine points but scored on a layup with 1:38 to go to make it a two-possession game. He also took a charge with 14.3 seconds left that essentially sealed the win. Indiana (18-2, 6-1 Big Ten) has won three straight since a Jan. 25 loss to Wisconsin. Indiana is sixth in the country in field goal percentage (50.0) and ninth in field goal percentage defense (37.3). The Hoosiers and Florida are the only two teams in the country ranked in both categories.
Purdue won 65-62 in overtime to Iowa on Saturday. Terone Johnson had 17 points and 12 rebounds and Ronnie Johnson scored 15 to lead Purdue. Donnie Hale had 12 points and five rebounds and D.J. Byrd had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Boilermakers (11-9, 4-3 Big Ten), who have won four of their last five. Purdue never trailed in overtime. The Boilers held Iowa to 31.1 percent shooting from the floor on Sunday, and are allowing opponents to shoot just 33.6 percent from the field and 28.8 percent from the arc in their recent five-game stretch.
The Hoosiers bring a two-game series winning streak into the contest having defeated the Boilermakers, 78-61 in Mackey Arena, and 85-74 last year in Assembly Hall. IU had lost five straight in the series prior to last season.
