Boise State needs this one more than the Rebels, who probably have done enough to get a bid. The Broncos enter off a 78-65 win over Colorado State, another NCAA bubble team. Derrick Marks scored 33 of his career-high 38 points in the second half to lead Boise State. Marks scored 24 consecutive Boise State points over a 10-minute stretch of the second half as the Broncos (20-8, 8-6 Mountain West) avenged a 77-57 loss to the Rams on Jan. 30. Marks’ output ties for fifth-most in Boise State history. He hit all 11 of his second-half shots to finish 13-of-18 from the field. His previous career best of 35 points came in a victory over Creighton on Nov. 28.
UNLV has won four straight like Boise State. The Rebels won 80-63 at Nevada on Saturday. Mike Moser scored 20 points, all in the first half. Moser started in place of Anthony Bennett, who was limited by a shoulder injury, to one point in 17 minutes. But Moser nailed his first three 3-pointers in UNLV’s first six possessions as the Rebels (22-7, 9-5 Mountain West) cruised to a 21-point halftime lead. The Rebels shot 48 percent from the floor, including 10 of 18 from 3-point range, and had double-digit point totals from all starters, with Bryce Dejean-Jones scoring 17. Moser had four 3-pointers and Dejean-Jones made three.
Boise State is 2-4 all-time against UNLV, including a 77-72 victory in Boise earlier this season. – Anthony Drmic scored 22 points to lead Boise State in that one. Marks added 17 points as the Broncos led wire-to-wire. Bennett scored 25 points and Anthony Marshall added 18 points and matched a career-high with 12 assists for UNLV.
The Broncos are 0-2 against the Runnin’ Rebels in Las Vegas, and lost the only game played at the Thomas & Mack Center (75-58; Feb. 22, 2012).
