ACC Tournament odds: Wake Forest vs. Maryland

Maryland probably needs at minimum a run to the ACC Tournament championship game to get an at-large NCAA Tournament bid, and certainly an upset loss to Wake Forest in the opening round Thursday in Greensboro would relegate the Terps to the NIT. Check our current game lines.

Maryland beat No. 1 Duke on Feb. 16 and seemed a lock NCAA team but lost four of its final six. Sunday’s 61-58 overtime defeat at fellow bubble team Virginia was a crusher. Nick Faust led the Terrapins (20-11, 8-10) with 15 points and Dez Wells finished with 12 and 12 rebounds, but despite leading most of the game, the Terrapins lost their fifth in a row against Virginia. Mitchell led Virginia with 17 points and Joe Harris had 15 despite making just 4 of 18 shots.

Wake Forest ended a three-game losing streak with a 90-79 win over Virginia Tech in its regular-season finale. C.J. Harris tied his career high with 29 points, Devin Thomas added 17 points, Arnaud William Adala Moto had 16 and Codi Miller-McIntyre 10 for the Demon Deacons (13-17, 6-12), who shot 59.2 percent (29 of 49) to clinch the 10th seed in the ACC tournament. Harris, playing his final home game for Wake Forest, went 8 of 14 from the field, including a perfect 6 of 6 on 3-pointers, and 7 of 9 on the free throw line to equal his career high, set two months ago against Boston College.

Maryland leads the all-time series with Wake Forest, 68-56, which dates back to 1952-53. The Terps have won 11 of 13 since 2006, and six straight. Maryland has won all four meetings with Wake Forest since Mark Turgeon took over as head coach, by an average margin of 16.0 points per game. In addition to the 86-60 win at home and the 67-57 win on the road this season, the Terps defeated the Demon Deacons 70-64 at home on 1/11/2012 and 82-60 on 3/8/2012 in the ACC Tournament first round. In the ACC Tournament, the Terps have won six in a row over Wake, with the Demon Deacons’ last win coming on Feb. 28, 1963. All-time at the ACC Tournament, Maryland leads 6-3. The Terps are the seventh seed in the ACC Tournament for the 11th time (3-7 record).
