Cincinnati at NY Yankees – Reds RHP Home Bailey (1-3, 4.35) vs. Yankees RHP Ivan Nova (4-1, 5.44): Bailey bounced back from his poorest outing of the season to hold the hot-hitting Braves to six hits and one run over 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision on Monday in Atlanta. His only win came in Chicago on April 20, limiting the Cubs to one earned run. … Nova is hoping to make the start after injuring his ankle in his last outing at Baltimore. Nova sprained the joint and was bruised by a batted ball as the Orioles hit him hard, getting five runs and seven hits in a 5 1/3 inning no-decision.

NY Mets at Toronto – Mets RHP Miguel Batista (1-1, 4.26) vs. Jays RHP Brandon Morrow (4-2, 2.22): Forty-one years young, apparently, Batista held the Crew scoreless for seven frames Monday in what was easily his best start of the year. Batista’s next turn comes in Toronto, where he worked as a middle reliever, closer and spot starter in 2004-05. … Morrow had his winning streak snapped at four games during his last outing against the Rays. Morrow allowed six runs (one earned) on four hits and four walks. It was also the first time he failed to pitch into the sixth this season.

Miami at Cleveland – Marlins RHP Anibal Sanchez (2-1, 2.28) vs. Indians RHP Jeanmar Gomez (2-2, 3.75): Sanchez was handed his first loss of the season his last time out, despite notching his seventh quality start in as many outings. Sanchez went seven innings and gave up three runs, including one homer, on six hits while fanning five and walking one. … Gomez pitched a solid seven innings on Monday and allowed just three hits the Tribe’s 5-4 win over the Twins. But he received a no-decision because the bullpen gave up three eighth-inning runs.

Pittsburgh at Detroit – Pirates RHP A.J. Burnett (1-2, 5.12) vs. Tigers LHP Drew Smyly (1-0, 2.31): Burnett threw eight strong innings and came away with a no-decision for the second straight start. The righty held the Astros to two runs on six hits in a game the Bucs won in extra innings. He is 4-2 with a 6.33 ERA in eight starts vs. the Tigers. … Smyly was removed from his start against Chicago after five innings and only 69 pitches as manager Jim Leyland didn’t like how the lefty was leaving the ball up. He allowed two two-run homers in just his second non-quality start of the season.

Atlanta at Tampa Bay – Braves RHP Randall Delgado (2-3, 3.79) vs. Rays TBA: Delgado had made three straight strong starts in May, allowing three earned runs on 13 hits in 20 1/3 innings. After Monday’s game against the Reds, he said he felt like he had turned a corner after a pair of poor starts to end April.

Arizona at Kansas City – Diamondbacks RHP Ian Kennedy (3-3, 3.81) vs. Royals LHP Bruce Chen (2-4, 4.34): The Cardinals beat up Kennedy on Tuesday, tagging him for six runs on six hits over seven innings. More specifically, it was Carlos Beltran who beat up on Kennedy: all six runs came on two Beltran home runs in the first two innings. Other than that, Kennedy pitched well, shutting down the Cards over the next five innings and striking out six batters. … Chen is on a roll, getting his second straight victory after a 0-4 start. He beat Boston, then Texas and went 6 2/3 innings in each game. He’s gone six or more innings in six of his eight starts.
