There is one huge injury to be aware of: Dortmund young star Mario Gotze will miss the match. Götze injured his hamstring in the second leg of Dortmund’s semi-final against Real Madrid and has been striving to be fit for Saturday’s final at Wembley. But the 20-year-old, who caused consternation at Dortmund after agreeing a €37m summer move to Munich, had to curtail a training session after aggravating the injury.

Götze’s absence is a huge blow to Jürgen Klopp’s side’s to pull the upset against the Bundesliga champions. The Germany international was, along with Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski, part of perhaps the most feared attacking triumvirate in European football this season and integral to Dortmund’s attacking style. Götze, who scored 19 goals for his club this season, is not the only injury concern for Dortmund, with the defender Mats Hummels, a 2008 signing from Bayern, carrying an ankle injury.

Bayern Munich is in the Champions League final for the 10th time, which trails only AC Milan and Real Madrid. Bayern are seeking to join Liverpool FC on five European Cup wins and become the joint-third most successful club in the competition’s history. Bayern’s last championship came 12 years ago. Borussia Dortmund is in its second Champions League final, beating Juventus for the 1997 championship.

Bayern are unbeaten against Dortmund in four meetings in 2012/13, including 1-1 home and away draws in the Bundesliga. On 1 December in Munich, Götze (74) cancelled out a Toni Kroos (67) goal, while in Dortmund on 4 May, Bayern’s Mario Gomez (23) wiped out Kevin Grosskreutz’s 11th-minute effort. Hunt replaces former Strikeforce titleholder Alistair Overeem, dos Santos’ initial opponent. Overeem was forced to withdraw because of injury. Hunt (9-7) put himself in contender status with a third-round technical knockout of Stefan Struve on March 3. The win was Hunt’s fourth in a row.

Dos Santos enters the cage for the first time since losing his title by unanimous decision to Velasquez in December. It was the second time the two had squared off; dos Santos (15-2) knocked out Velasquez in the first round on Nov. 12, 2011. A win over Hunt could land dos Santos another shot at the title, especially if Velasquez retains his belt in the UFC 160 main event against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.

Dos Santos has never been knocked out. Knocking people out is what Hunt does. In a fight where the ground is designated for slips and one-way trips, a single punch from either guy ends the co-main. Can it be Hunt on the delivering end? Dos Santos is far more technical than Hunt’s recent victims, and he has survived a combined six rounds with knockout-minded foes Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin in previous bouts. Hunt lacks the jiu-jitsu game of Nelson and the wrestling chops of Carwin, but he does have an uncanny ability to lure opponents into his kind of fight. A cast-iron chin allows him to trade shots with most anyone, and he will be emboldened by the fact that dos Santos rarely looks to land takedowns, although he was 2-for-2 against Carwin at UFC 131.

Dos Santos does not usually need to employ any sort of ground game because of his skilled and quick hands. He uses his jab to set up powerful hooks and uppercuts and is willing to work the body with his strikes, as well. Dos Santos’ use of movement and angles should limit countering opportunities for Hunt.

Hunt has six submission losses in his career. Dos Santos has never attempted a submission in any of his UFC fights. Hunt’s 85 percent of takedowns defended is the best in the heavyweight division and seventh best in the UFC among those with a minimum five UFC fights and at least 20 takedown attempts by opponents. Dos Santos has three takedowns in five attempts in his UFC fights and has defended 74 percent of his opponents’ attempts.

This is a rematch of a one-sided UFC 146 showdown, in which Velasquez grounded and gashed Silva with devastating ground-and-pound en route to a first-round TKO. The 30-year-old Velasquez (11-1) will be trying for the second time to make a successful title defense. He first became champion back in October 2010, dominating the to-that-point indomitable Brock Lesnar and finishing him via first-round technical knockout. Velasquez reigned for over a year — but only because shoulder surgery kept him out of the octagon. He returned in November 2011, facing Junior dos Santos in the first UFC fight televised on the Fox network. It lasted only 64 seconds, with the Brazilian taking the belt by KO. But last Dec. 29 Velasquez battered dos Santos for 25 minutes in the rematch, regaining the title via lopsided unanimous decision.

Silva (18-4) has climbed into title contention thanks to a few upsets. His most notable victory came in February 2011, during the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, when he beat up the renowned Fedor Emelianenko to the point where a doctor stopped the fight after two rounds. The 33-year-old Brazilian followed that moment of glory by losing two straight, to Daniel Cormier and Velasquez, but then got back to upsetting foes. First he knocked out Travis Browne, a rising star in the UFC’s heavyweight division. Then, on Feb. 2, he spoiled the promotion’s plans to book Alistair Overeem a championship fight, knocking out Overeem to grab away the title shot.

Silva will never be the most athletic heavyweight in the division, but when an opponent refuses to take him seriously, the results can be disastrous, as Overeem learned. Silva has big power in his massive fists and is capable of hurting anyone when given the opportunity.

Complacency will not be an issue for Velasquez, however. The champion will not drop his hands and taunt “Bigfoot,” and unless he suffers a catastrophic injury that limits his mobility — Browne tore his hamstring early in his bout with Silva — he should be able to follow a similar game plan to the one that worked so well at UFC 146. Silva struggles at keeping more agile opponents from getting inside on him, while Velasquez is adept at throwing punches and kicks in combination before changing levels at a moment’s notice.

Velasquez landed 28 significant strikes in the first meeting, of which all 28 occurred on the ground. By comparison, Silva was able to land only one significant strike the entire fight. Velasquez was successful in his only takedown attempt while Silva did not attempt to take down Velasquez.

The champion, an All-American wrestler from Arizona State, has been taken down just twice in 17 attempts by his opponents in his 12 fights. There were no submissions attempted in the first Velasquez-Silva fight. In fact, Velasquez has not even attempted a submission in his past six fights, while Silva has not attempted one in his past four.

Jarome Iginla and James Neal each scored twice, Sidney Crosby, Chris Kunitz and Pascal Dupuis added goals, and Tomas Vokoun made 30 saves in the Pens’ 7-3 in on Wednesday. Down 2-1 after the first period, the Penguins scored twice in a 40-second span early in the second and added four goals in the first 10 minutes of the third.

Crosby became the fastest active player to reach 40 career playoff goals. The Penguins star hit the milestone Wednesday night in his 77th postseason game. The only other active players to attain the 40-goal plateau in fewer than 90 playoff games are Jaromir Jagr (86) and Henrik Zetterberg (87). Slowed by a concussion late in the regular season, Neal played in Game 1 against the Islanders in the first round and then missed the next two. Defenseman Kris Letang assisted on four of the Penguins’ seven goals in their Game 4 victory. It was only the fifth time in the last 14 years that a defenseman recorded four assists in an NHL playoff game. The other D-men with four-assist games in postseason play since 1999 were Chris Chelios (2002), Nicklas Lidstrom (2007), Matt Carle (2010) and Zdeno Chara (2013 – Boston at Toronto, Game 4). Letang is the third defenseman in Penguins history to notch four assists in a playoff game. Paul Coffey did that twice (1989 and 1991) and Larry Murphy once (1991).

Anderson allowed four goals 4 where he was too far out of position to make a save (open net). Of the 57 goals Anderson allowed in the regular season and postseason entering Game 4 against the Penguins, only 3 (5.3%) were due to an open net situation. Anderson allowed eight goals on 101 shots in the first three games of the series; he surrendered six on 38 shots Wednesday night.

From their side, I think it’s tough to expect [Anderson] to play that well every single night,” Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik said. “He’s a great goalie, but that’s tough to do against shooters this good in a seven-game series.”

The Pacers appeared on the path to an upset in the opening game after Paul George, who was fouled by Dwyane Wade, hit three free throws with 2.2 seconds remaining to make it 102-101. After a timeout, James caught the ball near the foul line and drove past George for the easy layup to clinch the victory. George, who led the Pacers with 27 points, sent the game into overtime with a 3-pointer with 0.7 remaining. There were 18 ties and 17 lead changes, the last two of those coming in the final 2.2 seconds.

James finished with a game-high 30 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for his ninth career triple-double in the playoffs. Reserve Chris Andersen was absolutely critical in Wednesday’s series opener with 16 points on 7-of-7 shooting with three blocks.

He is 3-0 against the Mets as a starter, with a 1.58 ERA in 15 career appearances. … Hefner, 0-5 this year with a 5.00 ERA in nine games (eight starts), will give it another go on Friday against the Braves. It’s his first time facing first-place Atlanta this year.

Cubs RHP Scott Feldman (4-3, 2.19) at Reds RHP Bronson Arroyo (4-4, 3.28): Feldman has been one of the game’s best pitchers during his last five outings. He has tossed five consecutive quality starts, during which he’s 4-0 with a 1.27 ERA and .192 average against, and has allowed one earned run in his last 19 2/3 innings. … Arroyo felt that he wasn’t pinpoint sharp in his previous start, vs. the Phillies on Saturday, but he was definitely effective, with 22 of 29 first-pitch strikes.

Pirates RHP A.J. Burnett (3-4, 2.57) at Brewers RHP Marco Estrada (3-2, 5.44): Burnett leads the NL in strikeouts and hasn’t surrendered more than three runs in a start this season. He has gone seven innings in each of his past four starts, as well. He lost his last start vs. the Brewers on May 13. … Estrada earned one of the Brewers’ two wins on their 10-game road trip with a three-hit, seven-inning gem against the Pirates, allowing one run. But his last time out he was hit hard against the Cardinals, giving up four runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Padres LHP Eric Stults (4-3, 4.05) at Diamondbacks RHP Brandon McCarthy (1-3, 4.74): Stults was sharp his last time out against the Nationals, as he carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He allowed one run over eight innings, the deepest that he’s worked into a game since 2009. … McCarthy tossed a three-hitter in his last outing against the Marlins, a 1-0 win at Marlins Park. The right-hander has been on a roll allowing no runs in his last two outings, a span of 17 innings.

Cardinals RHP Lance Lynn (6-1, 3.27) at Dodgers LHP Chris Capuano (1-2, 4.84): Lance Lynn threw fewer than seven innings for the first time in six starts in his last outing against the Brewers. He was pulled after allowing four earned runs on eight hits, two walks and three strikeouts through five innings. … Despite 12 wins last year, the Dodgers didn’t plan on using Capuano in their rotation this year. But he’s back because of injuries to others and he’s coming off consecutive solid outings.

Rockies RHP Tyler Chatwood (2-0, 2.55) at Giants RHP Tim Lincecum (3-3, 4.70): Chatwood, in his second callup from Triple-A Colorado Springs, held the Giants to one run in 5 2/3 innings in a win Saturday. He has given up three or fewer runs in nine of his 11 career starts against NL West foes. … Lincecum has allowed six runs, tying a personal season high, in each of his previous outings this year against Colorado. He has made 25 career starts against Colorado, more than any other opponent.

Orioles RHP Chris Tillman (3-2, 3.52) at Blue Jays RHP Chad Jenkins (1-0, 3.60): Baltimore has lost Tillman’s past two starts even though he has allowed only four combined runs and nine hits over 13 innings. He faced Toronto April 22, allowing one run and four hits in 6.2 innings. … Injuries have the Jays scrambling for Friday’s starter. Jenkins is the likely guy. He last pitched on May 12 in Boston, allowing two earned runs in five innings. Lefty Sean Nolin, one of the organization’s top pitching prospects, is another potential candidate. It would be his major-league debut at age 23. In three starts for Double-A New Hampshire, Nolin has a 1.17 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings.

Twins RHP Samuel Deduno (first start) at Tigers RHP Anibal Sanchez (4-4, 2.77): Deduno will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester to make his first start of the season on Friday after posting a 2.70 ERA in three starts in the Minors. He started the season with a strained groin suffered in the World Baseball Classic. … Sanchez was roughed up in a loss to the Rangers on Saturday, giving up six runs on nine hits in 2 2/3 innings — the third-shortest start of his career. He’s 0-2 with a 3.57 ERA in four career starts against the Twins.

Indians RHP Justin Masterson (7-2, 2.83) at Red Sox RHP John Lackey (2-4, 3.31): Masterson recently was named the American League Player of the Week (May 13-19). He won both of his starts and notched 20 strikeouts while issuing five walks across 16 scoreless innings. He’s gone 19 innings without allowing a run. … The right-hander Lackey is coming off a tremendous start against the Twins, when he gave up one hit and one run over six innings. Lackey walked none and struck out five. Opponents are hitting .246 against him.

Yankees RHP David Phelps (2-2, 3.83) at Rays RHP Roberto Hernandez (2-4, 5.24): Phelps has completed at least six innings and allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his last three starts. Phelps, a swingman, has a 2.84 ERA through his first four starts of the season. … Hernandez allowed five earned runs on eight hits in two innings against the Orioles Saturday. His outing was the shortest by a Rays starter this season by 2 2/3 innings. He is 1-5 with a 7.16 ERA in 11 appearances against the Yankees.

Angels LHP Jason Vargas (3-3, 3.55) at Royals RHP Luis Mendoza (1-2, 5.50): Vargas is coming off back-to-back quality starts. On Sunday, he threw seven shutout innings against the White Sox in which he scattered four hits and only allowed two runners to reach scoring position. … Mendoza, getting into regular rotation work after being skipped over, has had three straight outings of six innings and looked good doing it. He held the A’s to two earned runs while giving up eight hits but no walks. He had no decision in a loss.

Marlins RHP Tom Koehler (0-2, 2.82) at White Sox LHP John Danks (first start): Koehler established career highs in innings (six), strikeouts (seven) and pitches (94) in his last start. It wasn’t enough. He gave up one run, his first pitch resulting in a homer in a loss to the D-backs. … A year and five days after his last big league start, Danks returns to the mound for his 2013 debut. The veteran had season-ending arthroscopic surgery last Aug. 6 and started 2013 on the DL.

A’s LHP Tommy Milone (4-5, 3.47) at Astros LHP Erik Bedard (0-2, 6.00): Milone ended a five-game losing skid in his last outing, a gutsy win vs. the Royals. He threw 50 pitches before getting the fourth out and still managed to get through six frames. He walked a season-high three batters but none after the third inning. … Bedard went six strong innings — his longest outing of the season — against Pittsburgh last weekend. He didn’t get a decision despite allowing just two runs, while striking out three in a 4-2 win.

Rangers RHP Justin Grimm (3-3, 4.02) at Mariners LHP Joe Saunders (3-4, 5.64): Grimm picked up his first win in four starts this month by holding the Tigers to two runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings of a 7-2 win last Saturday. He is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in two starts against the Mariners this year. … Saunders returns to the comfort of Safeco Field, where he’s 3-0 with a 0.94 ERA this season and 9-0 with a 1.72 ERA in his career. He beat the Rangers earlier this year in Seattle, but is 3-8 with a 6.30 ERA in 13 career starts vs. Texas.
